Ukraine Launches New Military Recruitment Initiative for Young Civilians
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has unveiled an innovative military recruitment initiative specifically designed for civilians aged 18 to 24. Dubbed “Contract 18-24,” this program aims to attract individuals eager to serve voluntarily for a duration of one year. Volunteers can decide whether to extend their service or return to civilian life, paving the way for unique opportunities ahead.”
Financial Incentives and Benefits for Recruits
The Ukrainian government has outlined attractive financial incentives for those who sign up for the program. Volunteers will receive a contract worth 1 million Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $23,963) for one year of service. Upon enlistment, recruits will be granted an initial payment of around 200,000 hryvnias ($4,793), with the remaining balance disbursed throughout their time in service.
Additionally, recruits can earn up to 120,000 hryvnias ($2,876) in supplemental pay, along with zero-interest mortgage options, free medical care—including dental prosthetics—and the right to travel abroad. These comprehensive benefits are designed to make military service a more appealing option for young Ukrainians.
Exemptions and Career Growth Opportunities
Notably, the initiative also includes a 12-month exemption from mobilization for recruits upon completion of their contracts. This measure aims to provide a safety net for individuals transitioning back to civilian life after their service. Umerov highlighted the importance of creating an environment that enhances the prestige and competitiveness of military careers.
He remarked, “We are fostering conditions that elevate the standing of military service. Those who join the Defence Forces will have access to top-tier training, competitive salaries, and substantial social benefits, along with significant opportunities for career advancement. The transformation of the Ukrainian army into a modern, robust, and agile force is underway, and every volunteer will be regarded as a crucial asset in our defense strategy.”
