Germany Partners with Indra for Space Surveillance Radar
Germany has officially contracted the Spanish defense firm Indra to develop and deliver a state-of-the-art space surveillance radar. This advanced radar system is designed to detect objects in low Earth orbit, enhancing the country’s ability to monitor its space environment. The initiative aims to protect both military and civilian space assets from potential threats, such as space debris that could damage or incapacitate satellites.
The new radar system will work in conjunction with existing sensors in Berlin, providing a comprehensive defense mechanism. It will also monitor potential espionage activities, where other satellites may attempt to gather sensitive information or disrupt missions. The German Space Command will control the radar remotely from its space situational awareness center in Uedem, located near the Netherlands border.
