Israel Launches Air Strikes in Southern Lebanon

On Friday, Israel carried out air strikes in southern Lebanon following threats from its defense minister, who warned the Lebanese government about the potential for further rocket attacks. This action has raised the stakes on an already tenuous ceasefire that had brought a year of hostilities with Hezbollah to an end. This incident marks the second instance of rocket fire coming from Lebanon since the ceasefire was established in November, with Hezbollah once again denying any involvement.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized that the calm in northern Israeli towns, particularly Kiryat Shmona and surrounding Galilee communities, is directly linked to stability in Beirut. The Israeli military reported that two projectiles were launched from Lebanon, with one intercepted and the other landing within Lebanese territory. Following the rocket fire, the Israeli military indicated its intent to strike what they described as “Hezbollah terror targets” in southern Lebanon.
