Cyprus Welcomes First H145M Helicopters
Cyprus has officially taken delivery of its first two H145M multirole helicopters from Airbus, marking a significant milestone for the small Mediterranean nation. This delivery is part of a modernization initiative that includes the acquisition of six state-of-the-art helicopters for the Cypriot National Guard, the country’s military branch. The remaining helicopters are expected to arrive later this year, fulfilling the terms set out in the 2022 contract.
The H145M helicopters are equipped with Airbus’ innovative HForce weapons system, designed to facilitate their use in light attack scenarios. A successful ballistic development test of this system was conducted at Papa Airbase in Hungary back in 2017, showcasing the helicopter’s capabilities.
Versatility Amidst Evolving Warfare
Olivier Michalon, EVP of Global Business at Airbus Helicopters, emphasized the importance of adaptable military assets in modern conflicts. He noted, “With hybrid warfare expected to increasingly influence future conflicts, military forces will look for versatile helicopters capable of performing various critical roles.” By selecting the H145M, Cyprus aligns itself with numerous European military forces that utilize this aircraft for a wide range of missions, including training, special operations, troop transport, and light attack.
The choice of the H145M underscores a growing recognition among military forces about the need for helicopters that can operate effectively across diverse scenarios. This strategic decision places Cyprus among elite defense partners in Europe.
Specifications and Capabilities of the H145M
The H145M helicopter boasts impressive specifications, measuring 14 meters (46 feet) in length with a rotor diameter of 11 meters (36 feet).
