Babcock’s Support for Ukraine

Babcock has won a proof-of-concept contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to aid the Ukrainian Armed Forces in on-demand 3D printing of military equipment. This agreement will facilitate the development of digital blueprints and Computer Aided Design (CAD) files necessary for the production of various equipment parts. The primary contractor, Babcock, will collaborate closely with the UK defense technology firm QinetiQ to fulfill this initiative.

Tom Newman, CEO of Babcock’s Land Sector, emphasized the significance of this project, stating, “Our goal is to empower Ukraine with the ability to manufacture the military parts they require, at any time and place crucial for their operations.” This innovative approach draws on Babcock’s engineering expertise and technological advancements, opening new avenues in the realm of 3D printing.

As part of this contract, Babcock will reverse-engineer older parts, analyzing their designs and functions to recreate them digitally. These digital files will enable the rapid production of necessary parts via 3D printing during critical missions. Alan Hart, Managing Director of Science, Technology, and Weapons at QinetiQ, expressed excitement about this partnership, stating, “We are proud to collaborate with Babcock in supporting Ukraine and to leverage QinetiQ’s leading expertise in technical assurance.”},{
