Krampus Mobile Flamethrower Revolutionizes Ukrainian Military

In a significant development, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has granted approval for the deployment of the highly innovative “Krampus” mobile flamethrower within its armed forces. This cutting-edge unimanned ground vehicle (UGV) brings a new level of capability to the military operations, featuring a sleek design that allows for fast transportation via trailer or pickup truck.

Equipped with advanced video cameras for reconnaissance and threat detection, the Krampus is not just built for mobility; it also includes the RPV-16 rocket-propelled thermobaric flamethrower, specifically designed to engage enemy troops and light armored vehicles effectively.

Advanced Control and Mobility Features

According to officials from the defense ministry’s equipment department, the Krampus is controlled through an advanced control module that ensures reliable connectivity, regardless of weather conditions. With its two electric motors designed to operate quietly, the vehicle is capable of stealthy movement across challenging terrains.

Its tracked chassis offers exceptional off-road capabilities, allowing it to navigate through sand, swamps, thick vegetation, and steep slopes effortlessly. Moreover, the drone’s battery is engineered to support “several hours” of continuous operation, whether driving or on standby while executing its missions.

Expansion of Combat Support Drones in Ukraine

The introduction of the Krampus is set to enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian military, bringing the total number of combat support UGVs to 80, as reported by the defense ministry. This marks a significant increase, especially considering that approximately 10 of these units were produced domestically and integrated into service in 2023 alone.

Additionally, in 2025, the military is expected to expand its drone arsenal further, with over two dozen UGVs already established, including the versatile “Spider” system that can carry up to 50 kilograms (110 pounds) for logistics and engineering tasks.

Innovative Logistics Solutions

This year’s fleet expansion also features the “Donkey” system, designed to transport heavier loads of up to 200 kilograms (441 pounds) and capable of towing vehicles about the size of an SUV. These advancements mark a leap in the logistical capabilities of the Ukrainian military, enabling them to sustain operations more effectively in varied combat scenarios.

As these unmanned ground vehicles become more prevalent within the military ranks, they are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing operational efficiency and reducing risks faced by personnel in the field.
