Urgent Call for a Peace Treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia

On Monday, France issued an urgent appeal for Azerbaijan and Armenia to swiftly finalize a peace treaty, highlighting the stagnation in discussions between the two countries. The longstanding conflict between these two neighboring nations, largely centered around the Karabakh region, has persisted for decades, culminating in a fierce struggle for control over the mountainous territory.

The situation escalated in 2023 when Azerbaijan reclaimed control of Karabakh from ethnic Armenian separatists. Although a draft peace agreement was established earlier in March, Azerbaijan has since introduced multiple conditions, including demands for constitutional amendments in Armenia, complicating the path to an official agreement.
