Iranian Drones Intercepted in Iraq
In a significant security development, two drones reportedly launched from Iran towards Israel were intercepted and shot down over Iraqi territory. This operation was carried out by the US-led international coalition focused on combating the Islamic State group, as confirmed by two Iraqi military officials in statements to AFP on Sunday.
The interception occurred near the Ain al-Asad military base, a site housing foreign troops in western Iraq. One official revealed that the drones were neutralized during the early hours of Sunday, with the other adding that these aerial vehicles posed a threat by entering the defensive perimeter of the coalition, which mandates an active response to any potential dangers.
