Eagle 6×6 Medical Vehicle Delivered to German Armed Forces

General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has officially handed over the first Eagle 6×6 medium protected medical vehicle to the German Armed Forces. This delivery is part of a substantial contract signed back in 2020, which encompasses the provision of up to 80 units. The handover took place at the Medical Training Regiment in Feldkirchen, Bavaria, during a live field response exercise, showcasing the vehicle’s readiness for operational use.

The German military’s investment in this advanced medical platform totals approximately $159 million, reflecting its commitment to enhancing medical capabilities on the battlefield. The introduction of the Eagle 6×6 is expected to complement the existing fleet of light and heavy armored medical vehicles, including the older Eagle Ground Reconnaissance System and Boxer Multi-Role Armored Vehicle.

GDELS Expresses Gratitude to Partners

Dr. Thomas Kauffmann, the managing director of GDELS Germany, expressed his appreciation for the continued trust that German customers place in the company. “We would like to thank our German customers for the continued trust they place in us and are delighted that we can hand over the most modern ambulance vehicle in the world to the German Armed Forces,” he stated during the delivery announcement.

This sentiment underscores a strong partnership between GDELS and the German Armed Forces, highlighting the importance of innovation and modern technology in military healthcare solutions.

Specifications of the Eagle 6×6

The Eagle 6×6 is a robust vehicle measuring 7 meters (23 feet) in length and boasts an impressive payload capacity of 6,000 kilograms (13,200 pounds). Depending on the specific configuration, it can accommodate up to 14 personnel, making it versatile for various medical mission profiles.

Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a diesel engine that delivers up to 360 horsepower. It features an Allison automatic five-speed transmission and is equipped with an independent/fully independent De Dion axle suspension, ensuring stability and maneuverability in challenging terrains.

Performance and Capabilities

The Eagle 6×6 demonstrates notable performance capabilities, achieving a top speed of 110 kilometers (68 miles) per hour and a driving range of 700 kilometers (435 miles) on a single tank. These attributes are crucial for rapid medical response in dynamic operational environments.

Particularly designed for medical emergencies, the ambulance variant of the Eagle 6×6 comes with an innovative stretcher loading system and is equipped with advanced medical apparatus. This allows for the efficient aid and transportation of up to two patients simultaneously, enhancing the medical support provided during missions.
