Armed Forces of Ukraine Boosted by New Donations

The Armed Forces of Ukraine have recently received a significant boost in military support, thanks to a donation from the Come Back Alive Foundation, a well-known non-governmental organization based in Kyiv. This latest aid package includes eight 120-millimeter mortar systems and four Iveco trucks, all of which were delivered to the 22nd Mechanized Brigade. This brigade, a former Soviet unit that was disbanded following Ukraine’s independence, was reactivated in 2023 as a direct response to ongoing Russian aggression.

Valued at 11.7 million hryvnias (approximately $279,644), this donation was primarily funded by Ukrenergo, the local electricity transmission operator. The Come Back Alive Foundation reports that this contribution adds to a total of over 300 mortar systems donated to the armed forces since the onset of the conflict three years ago. The partnership between the foundation and Ukrenergo has resulted in an impressive total of 570 million hryvnias ($13.6 million) in tactical resources provided to the Ukrainian military since the invasion began.

Significant Support for the 22nd Mechanized Brigade

Of the total support provided, more than 165 million hryvnias ($3.9 million) has been specifically allocated to the 22nd Mechanized Brigade, which is currently engaged in operations in northeastern Ukraine, close to the Russian Kursk region. This targeted assistance highlights the importance of this brigade in the ongoing conflict and underscores the commitment of local organizations to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

Prior to this latest delivery, the Come Back Alive Foundation had announced a fundraising achievement of approximately 200 million hryvnias ($4.7 million) dedicated to a separate initiative focused on supplying drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These drones have already proven to be effective, as they have reportedly helped down around 800 Russian drones since the project commenced in August 2024.

Drone Initiative Proves Effective

In addition to the mortar systems, the initiative has successfully provided 1,155 drones to the 22nd Mechanized Brigade, valued at 21 million hryvnias ($501,925). This strategic move is part of a broader effort to enhance the operational effectiveness of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield. The introduction of these drones into the conflict is expected to play a crucial role in countering enemy aerial surveillance and attacks.

Overall, the ongoing support from organizations like the Come Back Alive Foundation and the financial backing from Ukrenergo are vital for the Ukrainian military as it continues to confront challenges posed by Russian forces. The combination of ground artillery and aerial capabilities represents a significant step forward in Ukraine’s defense strategy.
