Aselsan Signs Major Air Defense Radar Agreement with Turkish Government
Aselsan, a leading Turkish defense firm, has formalized a significant agreement with the Presidency of Defence Industries of Turkey concerning the supply of advanced air defense radar systems. This pivotal contract is valued at approximately $170.9 million and 1.95 billion Turkish lira, which equates to around $55.49 million. The timeline for delivery is set between 2026 and 2031, although specific details regarding the radar systems included in the deal have not been fully disclosed.
Industry insiders speculate that the ALP-300G Portable Early Warning Radar System, formerly known as the ERALP, could be one of the primary candidates for this agreement. The ALP-300G was first unveiled in 2022, and the Turkish Armed Forces began receiving their initial units as recently as May of this year. During the delivery event, Haluk Gorgun, Secretary of the Turkish Defence Industries, expressed confidence in the system’s capabilities, stating, “The ALP 300-G we delivered today exceeds all competitors in terms of resolution, range, and accuracy.”
Capabilities of the ALP-300G Radar System
The ALP-300G radar system represents a new generation of S-band radar technology, designed to effectively detect and track a variety of aerial threats, including air-breathing targets, ballistic missiles, and even stealth technology. The system’s advanced features enable it to operate efficiently over long distances, which significantly enhances Turkey’s air defense capabilities.
Aselsan elaborated on the system’s technological advantages, highlighting its use of AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) and digital beamforming architecture. These features allow for the simultaneous production of multiple beams in space, thus supporting multi-function and multi-mission operations. The ALP-300G is a mobile system that integrates radar, command control, communication, and power systems, all mounted on tactical trucks, which enhances its operational flexibility.
In addition to its robust detection capabilities, the ALP-300G is equipped with identification friend or foe (IFF) functionalities. It can be seamlessly integrated into various defense networks, including national command and control systems, NATO air command frameworks, and air and missile defense systems. Notably, the system can be deployed and become operational in just 30 minutes, making it a critical asset for rapid response scenarios.
