UK-based Blighter has introduced its latest innovation in border surveillance with the launch of its B422LR radar system. This smart technology is capable of detecting human figures from an impressive distance of up to 15 kilometers, or 9.3 miles. Such an extensive detection range not only enables faster interceptions of potential intruders but also helps security operators minimize costs associated with border control.
The Blighter B422LR operates efficiently on just 4 Watts of power—comparable to a standard mobile phone or an LED light bulb—and boasts a broad monitoring capability, covering an area of 707 square kilometers, roughly 274 square miles. This significant technological advancement is set to enhance border security operations dramatically.
Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
One of the standout features of the B422LR system is its low power requirement along with its ability to provide 360-degree electronic coverage without the need for mechanical rotation. This is achieved through the use of static, low-power, solid-state transmitters. Blighter employs a technique known as frequency-modulated continuous wave transmission, which works in tandem with micro-Doppler target detection to lower the bandwidth needs of communications. Consequently, this reduces power consumption, allowing the radar to perform optimally in remote locations.
Moreover, the system’s design permits it to be powered by solar panels, making it particularly suitable for deployment in areas where traditional power sources may be unreliable. Its lack of requirement for forced-air cooling further enhances its appeal for use in inhospitable environments.
