Navantia Secures Major Contract for Spanish Navy Combat Supply Ship
Navantia has officially secured a significant contract to build a new combat supply ship for the Spanish Navy. The Spanish Council of Ministers has greenlit a budget of 703 million euros, approximately $814 million, dedicated to this ambitious project. The upcoming vessel, designated as the BAC II (Buque de Aprovisionamento), is expected to replace the aging A-14 Patiño, which has been in service for over three decades, by the year 2030.
The BAC II will complement the Spanish Navy’s existing logistical support capabilities, particularly working alongside the A-15 Cantabria, another crucial vessel in its fleet. This investment not only strengthens the Navy’s operational capabilities but also reflects Spain’s commitment to enhancing its maritime defense infrastructure.

The construction of the BAC II is anticipated to be a major economic boost, requiring approximately 3 million man-hours of labor over a span of four years.
