CV90 Cybersecurity: Enhancing Defense with Clavister

BAE Systems Hägglund has entered into a significant partnership with Swedish cybersecurity firm Clavister to enhance the cyber defenses of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicles. This collaboration will serve two undisclosed European nations, one located in Scandinavia and the other in Eastern Europe. The contract, valued at 53 million Swedish Krona (approximately $4.82 million), aims to deliver a comprehensive integrated defense cybersecurity system tailored for the pan-European platform. The implementation will include crucial components such as the Clavister RSG-400 security gateway and the RSW-400 secure network switch, with deliveries scheduled over a three-year period commencing in the latter half of 2025.

As warfare increasingly becomes reliant on advanced technology, the latest version of the CV90 is designed with extensive digital capabilities, making robust cybersecurity essential. The integrated defense system will shield both the vehicle and its crew from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. The RSG-400 is engineered to effectively filter out unwanted users, systems, or protocols, whereas the RSW-400 significantly boosts the resilience of the vehicle’s onboard network infrastructure. This resilience is critical for managing the numerous systems that the CV90 operates, including weapons, battle command systems, and engine control. Notably, both the RSG-400 and RSW-400 modules are ruggedized to withstand extreme environmental conditions and potential physical attacks.

Clavister’s CEO, John Vestberg, emphasized the continued relevance and superiority of the CV90 in modern military operations, stating, “The CV90 continues to prove its superiority with existing and new nations opting for the platform.” The incorporation of advanced cyber-defense capabilities is a testament to the vehicle’s design, which is tailored to confront a diverse array of threats on the battlefield. As global military dynamics evolve, the partnership between BAE Systems and Clavister underscores a proactive approach to ensuring that the CV90 remains a formidable asset in defense operations.
