Denmark Enhances Military Training with New Combat Centre

Denmark’s Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation has announced a significant investment, committing 680 million Swedish kronor (approximately $63 million) to Saab for the establishment of an advanced Combat Training Centre. The delivery schedule is set from this year through 2027, illustrating Denmark’s commitment to modernizing its military training capabilities.

This comprehensive package will equip the Danish Armed Forces with an array of sophisticated training systems, including simulators for anti-tank and sniper operations, communication tools, and specialized software to evaluate exercise outcomes. Notably, Saab will also offer on-site training support at four different locations throughout Denmark.

A Step Towards Modern Training Infrastructure

Joakim Alhbin, head of Saab’s Training and Simulation business unit, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “With this delivery, Denmark will have one of the most modern and flexible Combat Training Centres in Europe, tailored to meet the demands of today and tomorrow.” This modernization reflects a broader trend among European nations to enhance military readiness through advanced training technologies.

The Combat Training Centre (CTC) is designed as a modular and scalable solution, making it suitable for a variety of military exercises. Capable of accommodating up to 10,000 participants across a vast area of 40 kilometers by 40 kilometers (25 miles by 25 miles), the CTC can be implemented in both mobile and fixed-site formats.

Innovative Features for Enhanced Training

One of the standout features of Saab’s CTC is its integration with EXCON, a cutting-edge software suite. This system enables real-time planning, monitoring, and evaluation of training sessions, allowing for precise tracking of troop movements and actions during exercises. The technology facilitates structured after-action reviews, enhancing learning outcomes for all participants.

The CTC is versatile enough to support various operational levels, accommodating individual soldiers, units, and brigade combat teams, thereby elevating the overall training experience and effectiveness.

Saab’s Recent Endeavors in Defense Contracts

The establishment of the Combat Training Centre is part of Saab’s broader initiative to strengthen its position within the defense sector. In June, the company secured multiple contracts and collaborations, highlighting its growing influence on an international scale.

Notable agreements included a joint declaration with France to investigate the potential acquisition of the GlobalEye aircraft. Within Sweden, Saab received an order for the Giraffe 4A radar system, alongside partnerships aimed at enhancing airborne early warning capabilities for the MQ-9B drone.
