Diehl Defence and Sener Forge New Partnership
Germany’s Diehl Defence and Spanish engineering firm Sener have officially entered into a memorandum of understanding, marking a significant step forward in their collaborative efforts to advance defense technologies. This partnership aims to explore a variety of innovative defense capabilities, including hypersonic missiles, remote carriers, and unmanned ground vehicles.
The agreement outlines a strategic plan to co-develop technologies that are integral to the Future Combat Air System (FCAS), a cutting-edge air combat initiative championed by France, Germany, and Spain. By collaborating on subsystems such as guided missiles and unmanned platforms, Diehl and Sener are positioned to play a vital role in shaping the architecture of this groundbreaking aerial defense program.
Longstanding Collaboration and Future Prospects
Diehl Defence and Sener’s partnership is not new; the two firms have been working together for over twenty years. Rafael Orbe, General Director of Defence at Sener, spoke highly of this continued collaboration, stating, “This is a step forward in our long history of partnership and mutual trust.” He emphasized that this new initiative will open further avenues for cooperation and strengthen the ties between the two companies.
Sener’s role has been particularly significant in the IRIS-T missile program, where the company has been responsible for the production of crucial aerodynamic components and control systems for both air-to-air and ground-launched versions of the missile. Led by Diehl Defence, the IRIS-T system is now a preferred short-range air defense solution among NATO and allied air forces, highlighting the importance of such collaborative efforts in enhancing regional security.
