Oshkosh’s New Commitment to Dutch Defense
In a significant move to enhance its military capabilities, the Netherlands Ministry of Defence has selected Oshkosh Defense for the production of 150 Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicles (DXPV). This decision is part of the Future Littoral All Terrain Mobility – Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV) initiative. The DXPV, a unique variant of Oshkosh’s Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), will serve as an advanced replacement for the traditional High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (Humvee) used by the military.
Pat Williams, Oshkosh’s Chief Programs Officer, expressed the company’s pride in being chosen by the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. He highlighted the strategic importance of equipping their forces with the DXPV, reinforcing Oshkosh’s commitment to delivering high-quality military vehicles. While specifics regarding the vehicle’s technical details and the contract award have not been released, the anticipation regarding the DXPV remains high.
Enhanced Mobility and Interoperability Features
The DXPV is designed to meet the robust needs of the Dutch Marines, who are looking to acquire a total of 178 patrol vehicles. Williams noted that the DXPV shares a multitude of features with the JLTV currently utilized by the United States Army and its allies. This includes superior off-road mobility, speed, and transportability, ensuring that the vehicle is well-suited for various terrains.
Furthermore, the DXPV offers seamless operational and logistical interoperability with NATO allies, a critical feature for joint military operations. Countries like Brazil, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Lithuania have adopted the JLTV, furthering its reputation as a reliable military platform. Slovenia recently augmented its fleet with an additional 50 units in January and is on track to receive 65 more, bringing their total to 500 this year.
