F-35A Lightning II Pilots Complete Training in Poland
The Polish Air Force has celebrated a significant milestone as its first class of F-35A Lightning II pilots has successfully completed their training. Graduating from practical sessions at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas, these pilots have finished all required theoretical coursework and simulator exercises. Their hands-on training commenced in January, following three months of initial instruction provided by the U.S. 33rd Fighter Wing at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
This cohort of pilots marks the first instance of foreign servicemen training at the esteemed air force base. Poland’s Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, expressed his admiration, stating, “Congratulations to the Polish pilots who completed the first stage of F-35 training yesterday in the US. Professionalism and extraordinary experience — that’s what made this achievement possible.” The training aims to enhance operational readiness and ensure increased interoperability with allied forces.
Poland’s acquisition of 32 F-35A jets, scheduled for completion by 2030, underscores the nation’s commitment to modernizing its military capabilities. The agreement, signed in 2019 for $6 billion, aims to phase out the aging fleet of Russian-made MiG-29s and Su-22s, some of which have been operational since the 1970s. This strategic move is designed to bolster Poland’s defense against regional threats while also ensuring seamless coordination with U.S. military forces.
The introduction of the F-35A jets is expected to modernize Poland’s air defense systems significantly, improving its air-to-air and air-to-ground combat capabilities. By integrating these advanced aircraft, Poland aims to enhance its deterrence capabilities against potential aggressors, reflecting its proactive approach to national security.
