Finland Tightens Monitoring of Russian Border Activities

Finland is ramping up its surveillance of Russian military operations along its eastern border, as recent reports from both the Finnish armed forces and international media point to a significant military build-up. Defence Minister Antti Hakkanen confirmed this to AFP on Thursday, highlighting the nation’s renewed focus on its security following its accession to NATO in 2023.

With a lengthy 1,340 kilometers (830 miles) of border shared with Russia, Finland’s strategic position has become even more critical. Satellite imagery published by the New York Times suggests that Russian military infrastructure is expanding near the border, raising concerns among Finnish officials.
