Hezbollah Militant Attack: Recent IDF Strikes Explained
Israel’s military announced on Thursday that its forces conducted a strike in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of a Hezbollah militant. This incident marks the second strike in as many days, occurring despite an ongoing ceasefire with the Iran-backed militant group. An official statement from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that an aircraft targeted and eliminated a militant in the Arnoun area, who was allegedly attempting to rebuild Hezbollah’s operational infrastructure.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, this recent strike claimed one life during an operation targeting a vehicle on the road between Arnoun and Yahmor. This follows a prior announcement by the IDF on Wednesday, which claimed responsibility for killing a Hezbollah commander in the Qabrikha area, also situated in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military has resumed its attacks despite a ceasefire agreement established on November 27, aimed at concluding over a year of hostilities and violent clashes with Hezbollah.
The ceasefire was expected to see Hezbollah withdraw its fighters to the north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the Israeli border, and dismantle any remaining military assets in that region. Conversely, while Israel was meant to pull its forces out completely from Lebanon, it has retained troops in five key areas deemed ‘strategic.’ Lebanon insists it has complied with its ceasefire commitments, and it is calling on the international community to intervene to halt Israel’s operations and ensure the withdrawal of Israeli forces from its territory.
