Advancements in the IRIS-T Air-to-Air Missile Program

German defense manufacturer Diehl Defence has been chosen once again to spearhead a multinational initiative aimed at enhancing the IRIS-T air-to-air missile. This follows the successful development of the missile’s initial version, where Diehl collaborated with partners from Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden, and Norway. The new Block II contract signifies a commitment to upgrade the missile’s capabilities, pushing beyond its original air-to-air functionality. However, specifics regarding the planned enhancements have not been disclosed.

Diehl Defence emphasized the significance of the IRIS-T Block II contract, stating it marks a crucial milestone for the missile’s future. As the primary contractor, Diehl continues to take a leading role in the development process, working closely with industry representatives from Sweden, Spain, and Italy on this ambitious project.
