Israel’s Airstrikes on Iran Result in Heavy Casualties

A US-based non-governmental organization reported on Friday that Israel’s military operations against Iran have led to the tragic deaths of at least 657 individuals, including both civilians and members of the security forces. The Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) gathered information from various sources within Iran to compile these figures, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities since the strikes began on June 13.

Among the reported casualties, HRANA confirmed that at least 263 civilians have lost their lives nationwide. This includes the heartbreaking loss of over 20 children, primarily in Tehran. Furthermore, the organization noted that 164 military personnel were also among the deceased, while 230 others remain unclassified as either civilians or security personnel. By early Friday, the total number of injuries had surpassed 2,000, affecting both members of the security forces and civilians alike.

Geographic Spread of Strikes

The airstrikes conducted by Israel have reportedly impacted 21 out of Iran’s 31 provinces. This widespread military campaign underscores Israel’s determination to thwart what it perceives as a growing nuclear threat from Tehran. Despite the significant casualties and destruction, Iranian officials maintain that they will not bow to external pressures.

HRANA, part of a broader coalition of human rights activists, was originally founded in Iran in 2005 but has since moved its operations to the United States due to increasing government repression. This NGO is committed to shedding light on human rights violations in Iran, releasing numerous reports each day to alert the international community.

Iran’s Response and Casualty Figures

In a stark contrast to the reports from HRANA, Iranian officials claimed on Sunday that Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 224 individuals, which includes military leaders and nuclear scientists, alongside civilian casualties. However, Iranian authorities have not disclosed any updated figures since their initial claims, leaving the true extent of the devastation somewhat unclear.

In an act of retaliation, Iranian forces have conducted strikes against Israel, leading to fatalities and injuries among Israeli civilians. Officials report that at least 25 people have died as a result of these actions, with hundreds more injured, indicating a growing spiral of violence between the two countries.
