Next-Generation Tactical Vehicle Prototype Tested in Germany
The US Army has unveiled its Next-Generation Tactical Vehicle — Hybrid (NGTV-H) prototype in Germany, where it underwent rigorous testing in the challenging snowy landscapes of Bavaria. This evaluation took place during the annual Combined Resolve 25-1 exercise, offering the Army’s 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division a unique opportunity to operate the vehicle across diverse operational scenarios. The trials highlighted the NGTV-H’s capabilities in supporting sophisticated reconnaissance missions, enabling soldiers to effectively gather and transmit vital battlefield intelligence even under adverse conditions.

Inside the NGTV-H
The NGTV-H is engineered as a diesel-electric light vehicle that significantly enhances mobility, efficiency, and operational versatility for reconnaissance tasks. Manufactured by GM Defense, this innovative vehicle is equipped with the same Duramax engine found in the Infantry Squad Vehicle, complemented by an electric battery that generates around 300 kilowatt-hours of power. This hybrid powertrain not only supports quieter operations but also contributes to a reduced environmental footprint, markedly lowering fuel consumption.
One of the standout features of the NGTV-H is its ability to transition seamlessly between ‘silent mode’ and ‘regular engine mode’ with a simple switch. This capability is crucial for stealth operations, allowing units to maintain a low profile while navigating diverse terrains. Furthermore, the NGTV-H’s design accommodates easy transport via C-130 and C-17 cargo planes or CH-47 Chinook helicopters, ensuring quick deployment to any operational theater.
