Suburban Shield Vehicles for Qatar Armed Forces Enhancements
Qatar has made a significant investment in General Motors Defense’s Suburban Shield vehicles, designed specifically for its armed forces and special forces command. This next-generation vehicle is built on the foundation of GM’s extensive lineup of large pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Notably, a substantial portion of the hull and propulsion components are sourced commercially, ensuring both reliability and performance. Once operational, these vehicles will play a crucial role in enhancing the Qatari military’s capabilities in diplomatic security and VIP transport.
Steve duMont, President of GM Defense, expressed confidence in the Suburban Shield’s capabilities, stating, “GM Defense’s next-generation Suburban Shield provides the Qatar Armed Forces with unmatched performance, thanks to GM’s advanced technologies.” He emphasized that the vehicle was developed from the ground up to be a protective asset, leveraging GM’s renowned processes and tools to meet the high standards associated with their products. Advanced Design and Features
The Suburban Shield features a “new and unique” chassis and suspension system, engineered to comply with rigorous weight and performance criteria. GM Defense has harnessed digital engineering and quality management practices during the assembly of the vehicle, ensuring that the armor architecture is seamlessly integrated into the base design. In addition to its deployment in Qatar, GM Defense is also producing the Suburban Shield for the Heavy-Duty Armored Sport Utility Vehicle program of the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service. This expansion underscores the vehicle’s versatility and capability to meet the needs of different military and security operations.
