Israel’s Military Action in Syria
On Wednesday, Israel carried out airstrikes targeting the Syrian military headquarters in Damascus. This military action followed a stern warning from Israeli officials for the Assad regime to refrain from attacking the Druze community in Sweida, a predominantly Druze region. Reports from a monitoring group indicated that recent sectarian clashes in Sweida have led to almost 250 fatalities, underscoring the escalating tensions in the area.
The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, firmly stated that Israel would not abandon the Druze population and emphasized the need for demilitarization in the region. Following the announcement of military operations, the Israeli military confirmed that they had struck military assets in Syria, with Syrian state television reporting injuries from the attack.
