Poland Orders T700 Engines to Enhance Apache Helicopter Fleet
In a significant move to bolster its military capabilities, Poland has officially placed an order for 210 T700 engines from GE Aerospace. This acquisition aims to equip the Polish armed forces’ fleet of 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters. The contract, finalized in August 2024, not only underscores Poland’s commitment to modernizing its military assets but also reflects a growing partnership with leading aerospace manufacturers.
As part of this agreement, the Military Aviation Works based in Dęblin will play a crucial role by providing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the T700 engines. This initiative extends beyond the Apache helicopters; it will also include support for the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawks and the CT7 engines on the Leonardo AW149 and AW101 aircraft utilized by the Polish military.
Training and Development Initiatives
In conjunction with the engine procurement, the Military University of Technology in Warsaw has been tasked with training technicians and military personnel. This program aims to equip staff from Military Aviation Works with the necessary skills to maintain the helicopter fleet effectively. Additionally, the initiative focuses on preparing future engineers to support the ongoing development of Warsaw’s armed forces.
This comprehensive training effort is designed to ensure that Poland’s military personnel are well-prepared to handle the advanced technology associated with the T700 engines and other modern military equipment. Strategic Collaboration and Future Prospects
According to a recent press release from GE Aerospace, this collaboration not only secures the supply chain for all platforms powered by the T700/CT7 engine line but also opens avenues for future partnerships in Poland. GE Aerospace has expressed interest in potentially collaborating on other combat engines, such as the F110, F414, and F404, which could further enhance Poland’s military capabilities.
Amy Gowder, President and CEO of GE Aerospace’s Defense & Systems division, highlighted the T700 as the preferred engine for medium-sized helicopters. She noted its exceptional performance, reliability, and durability, boasting an output of 2,000 shaft horsepower. The T700/CT7 family has been developed in response to the US Army’s demands for increased power and maintainability, making it a trusted choice adopted by over 50 countries worldwide.
Continued Support from the United States
Last June, the US government awarded GE Aerospace a substantial contract aimed at sustaining the production of up to 950 T700 engines. This deal serves both the US armed forces and foreign military sales and is set to continue through 2029. The ongoing production of these engines demonstrates the enduring collaboration between the US and its allies, ensuring that partner nations like Poland have access to cutting-edge military technology.
