Ukraine Strengthens Military Ties with KNDS
Ukraine has taken a significant step in enhancing its military capabilities by signing a memorandum of understanding with KNDS (Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Nexter Defense Systems). This partnership aims to jointly produce medium-caliber ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces, a crucial development given the current geopolitical climate. The agreement specifically focuses on manufacturing shells for automatic guns, intended to effectively engage enemy infantry, light armored vehicles, and threats at low altitudes.
The collaboration will be backed by Ukraine’s state-owned defense enterprise, Ukroboronprom, which will work alongside KNDS’s Belgian branch. The General Director of Ukroboronprom, Oleh Hulyak, emphasized that this agreement indicates a broader strategy to extend Ukraine’s international partnerships. He stated, “We are gradually expanding the geography of our international partnerships, seeking and discovering new areas of cooperation,” highlighting the initiative’s importance for the Ukrainian Defense Forces and the domestic defense industry.
