President Volodymyr Zelensky made a remarkable declaration on Monday, revealing for the first time that Ukrainian military operations are taking place in Russia’s Belgorod region. This announcement comes in the wake of reported attacks by Moscow during March, emphasizing the ongoing tension in the area, which is in close proximity to Russia’s Kursk region. The Belgorod area has been subjected to frequent airstrikes from Ukraine, highlighting the escalating conflict between the two nations.
In his daily speech, Zelensky highlighted a report from the country’s military commander, General Oleksandr Syrsky, confirming that Ukrainian forces are indeed present in both the Kursk and Belgorod regions. “We continue to conduct active operations in the border areas on enemy territory, and this is entirely correct — the war must return to where it originated,” Zelensky asserted, underscoring the strategic importance of these operations.

This declaration marks a significant moment as it is the first time in over three years of Russia’s invasion that Zelensky has openly acknowledged a Ukrainian presence in Belgorod, a region with a population of approximately 1.5 million residents.
