Vislyuk Unmanned Ground System: Revolutionizing Ukraine’s Military

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has officially endorsed the deployment of the “Vislyuk” unmanned ground system for a variety of military operations. The system, whose name translates to “donkey” in Ukrainian, boasts advanced electric-nuclear warfare-resistant control technology. This innovative platform can be paired with a fiber optic module, allowing for remote functionality in logistics, evacuation, mining, and engineering operations.

In addition to these roles, the Vislyuk can also act as a mobile radio communication repeater, a combat module, or a surveillance system. This versatile application is a crucial development in enhancing the capabilities of Ukraine’s military efforts.

Features of the Vislyuk System

Kyiv has revealed that this ground drone is the product of collaboration with a local industry partner, developed specifically in response to the needs of the armed forces. The Ukrainian Main Directorate for Lifecycle Support of Armaments and Military Equipment presented the drone’s design, which resembles a small tracked vehicle featuring a spacious upper compartment.

Its compact build greatly enhances its transportability in the battlefield, making it adept in traversing difficult terrains, including off-road, sandy landscapes, and swampy regions.

Power and Performance

The Vislyuk is equipped with two silent electric motors, ensuring stealthy operations. Designed with a ready-to-evacuate configuration, the drone has a payload capacity of up to 200 kilograms (441 pounds). Impressively, it can also tow an SUV that has become ensnared in mud, showcasing its practical utility in challenging situations.

These features position the Vislyuk as a crucial asset on the battlefield, filling various operational gaps and allowing for greater tactical flexibility.

Testing and Validation

The green light for the deployment of the Vislyuk followed a series of significant tests conducted by Ukraine, which focused on unmanned ground systems for tactical applications. These trials included more than 70 drones produced by 50 different manufacturers, all of which successfully flew through rigorous testing regimens.

The drones were evaluated across a 10-kilometer (6-mile) testing area, undergoing assessments for payload capabilities, technical performance, and other demanding tasks. This extensive validation process ensures that the Vislyuk is ready for real-world applications.
