YPR Armored Infantry Vehicles Boost Ukraine’s Military Support
The Dutch Ministry of Defence has announced a significant military aid package for Ukraine, sending 25 YPR armored infantry vehicles to bolster the nation’s ground forces amid ongoing Russian aggression. This announcement was made in Brussels during a recent meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, which is dedicated to facilitating military and humanitarian support for Ukraine.
Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans highlighted the urgency of the situation, stating, “We are nearing the unfortunate milestone of three years of large-scale Russian aggression in Ukraine.” He emphasized the relentless struggle of Ukrainians fighting for their future and the collective security of Europe, noting that the Netherlands has committed over €10 billion in military assistance, with around €6 billion already delivered.
Continued Commitment to Ukraine’s Defense
Brekelmans reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to providing uninterrupted support to Ukraine, particularly as the nation faces mounting challenges on the battlefield. He reiterated the belief that peace with Russia can only be achieved through a strong military presence.
The YPR armored vehicles are designed for versatility and protection, featuring a chassis made from a combination of aluminum and laminated steel. Weighing 13.7 tonnes and measuring 5 meters in length, each vehicle is operated by a crew of three and can transport up to seven soldiers, equipped with a fuel capacity exceeding 400 liters.
Technical Specifications of YPR Vehicles
Powered by a Detroit six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, the YPR vehicles deliver 264 horsepower, enabling them to reach a top speed of 61 kilometers per hour and an operational range of 490 kilometers. They can also be outfitted with combat armaments, including a 20-millimeter autocannon and a 7.62-millimeter machine gun.
At the same meeting in Brussels, Minister Brekelmans also confirmed the successful delivery of the final batch of T-72 main battle tanks promised to Ukraine in 2022. This delivery coincides with the transfer of the latest F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets, which the Dutch government pledged to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2023.
